$300,000 Raised for Local Alzheimer’s Organization

Summit League Event Chairs present a check to Hearts and Minds Activity Center

Summit League’s spring 2019 fundraiser, A Day in the Garden with Friends, raised $300,000 for San Jose’s Hearts and Minds Activity Center (formerly Respite and Research for Alzheimer’s Disease). Held on the grounds of a beautiful Los Gatos estate, the luncheon featured speaker Elizabeth Gelfand Stearns, an award-winning advocate and activist who has worked to ignite public awareness and raise funds for research in the battle against Alzheimer’s disease. She also served on the National Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association and produced the critically acclaimed movie, Still Alice. The event marketplace featured a wide selection of jewelry, fashion, and art vendors also donated a portion of all proceeds to the cause.

A Day in the Garden with Friends Luncheon

As the only dementia-specific adult daycare program in Santa Clara County, Hearts & Minds Activity Center is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions by providing safe, nurturing intergenerational services, and a rich network of support. The donation will provide for Center renovations and the creation of a technology and library facility to benefit individuals of all stages of dementia.
